Search Results

The Search Results page displays the results of your search. 20 results per page are displayed (you can change this by using the 'Display' drop-down list on the Basic search or Advanced search pages). Additional matches can be accesses using the "Page(s): 1 | 2 | 3" navigation.

The EEBO Search Results page contains the following information:

Your search terms/criteria and the number of hits and records retrieved.
Number of results displayed.
Matching records, displaying the following information (where available): Author and author role information (e.g. 'Editor'), Document title, imprint, Date, Bib name/number, number of pages, and source library information.
If you are a TCP subscriber and your search has retrieved keyword hits, the Search Results display will also include a Context of Matches display. The section of the document that contains your search term will be listed (click this to go to the relevant section of the full text), followed by the line of context which contains the hit. Up to five instances of context are shown on the Search Results; if your search has retrieved more than five instances of the term, you can click the View all hits in this text link to go to the full Context of Matches display.

To refine these search results you can click the Refine search link and return to your original search screen, where you can enter more search parameters.

You can jump to a particular record by entering the relevant number into the 'Go to record no.' search box and clicking 'Go'.

If you are also subscribed to Literature Online, you can access Author pages from Literature Online where these are available for authors in EEBO. Simply click the 'Author page in Literature Online' link next to an entry in the Search Results- the Literature Online Author page for that author will open in a new window, with EEBO remaining open in the original window.

By default, records are listed alphabetically by author. You can choose to change the sort order by selecting an option from from the 'Sort' drop-down list and clicking 'Go'. You can choose to sort your results alphabetically by title or author, or with the earliest or latest publications first.

Next to each matching record there will be icons representing the forms that the record is available in:

add to marked list icon / Add/Remove from Marked list icon - clicking this will add, or remove the Full Record to, or from your Marked List. (Alternatively if you wish to add all the items on the Search Results page to your Marked List, there is a link at the top of the page which allows you to do this.)

Record icon - clicking this icon will take you to the records Full Record page.

Document Image icon - clicking this icon will take you to the Document Image page.

Illustrations icon Illustration icon - clicking this icon will take you to the Illustrations page.

Full Text icon - clicking this icon will take you to the Full Text page. TCP subscribers only.

Note: If the size of the full text is large (over 200Kb) then the Downloading full text screen is displayed. From here it is possible to access the Table of Contents for the volume from which the work is taken, to allow you to select a smaller portion of text to download.

Thumbnail icon - clicking this icon will take you to the Thumbnails page.

Zero (0) hits for your search.

There may be many reasons why the search results did not return any hits.

Please check your spelling.
Check that you have entered the term(s) in the correct search field.
Your institution may not be subscribed to all EEBO subsets. To check your subscription details please click here.
There are certain circumstances under which searches may fail, for example if you select a very large number of terms from a browse list.
